Spread the love

There are 9 easy steps of Technical SEO checklist which helps you to rank your posts on the top of the Google Search engine. This 9 steps of technical SEO checklist will help you to bust traffic, easy and quickly. Because, you can not expect good search ranking on the google search engine just because your content is just valuable and useful. Useful and valuable content is important but is not enough for good ranking.

STEP 1: SSL first step in technical SEO checklist

Open your website in a web browser, for example Google chrome, and if you do not see the lock icon on the left side in the address bar your site is not connected through security protocol. How to solve that problem? There are two different protocols: http – non secure and https – secured. It is necessary to install and use https protocol. Even if somebody types in the address bar http://mywebsite.com it is necessary to make a redirect to https://mywebsite.com. Always use the https version of the website only.

Technical SEO Checklist / SSL / not secured website

To make http to https redirection we need to install an SSL plugin to WordPress. Goto WordPress dashboard and open Plugins / Add New. In the Search field type “Really Simple SSL” to find a Really Simple SSL plugin for WordPress. Install and activate it.

SSL / Really Simple SSL install
SSL / Really Simple SSL activate
SSL / Really Simple SSL activate SSL
SSL / Really Simple SSL activated

At the end of installation, 301 redirects and SSL Activated will be displayed. If we open our website and refresh it the SSL secure icon will appear.

STEP 2: Use only one version of domain name

You have to make a decision what domain name you want to use, before making the website live. There are two possibilities:

  • With “www” (https://www.mywebsite.com) or
  • Without “www” (https://mywebsite.com)

There is no difference between two possibilities but it is not good to use both at the same time. That is one of most important rule in Technical SEO checklist. Because, google search engine will index your website two times, and you make competition with yourself.

Open your provider’s portal and make https://www.mywebsite.com redirection to https://mywebsite.com or the opposite. The result is: if you type your site name with www in the address bar, the link will be automatically redirected to the non www version, or opposite.

How to do redirection depends on your provider. Please contact your provider for detailed instruction. Then go to your WordPress dashboard, open Settings/General and write your WordPress Address (URL) as you decide (with or without www) and save your settings.

STEP 3: Configuring permalinks

Configuring permalinks are important step in Technical SEO checklist, so do not skip it.

The search engines are “like” links with article titles, not with ID numbers. Always is better to use an article title than some random automatic ID numbers. Open Settings/Permalinks and choose “Post name” option and Save Changes at the end.
